چکیده

This paper examines an economic production quantity (EPQ) model with rework and service level constraint. First, we prove that the expected overall costs for an imperfect EPQ model with backlogging permitted is less than or equal to that of the one without backlogging. Secondly, the relationship between “imputed backorder cost” and maximal shortage level is derived for decision-making on whether the required service level is achievable. Then an equation for calculating the intangible backorder cost is proposed for situation when the required service level is not attainable. By including this intangible backorder cost in mathematical analysis, one can derive a new optimal lot-size policy that minimizes expected total costs as well as satisfies the maximal shortage level constraint for the EPQ model with rework. Numerical example is provided to demonstrate its practical usage. KeywordsManufacturing, Economic production quantity, Service level constraint, Reworking

An Economic Production Quantity Model for Defective Items with Sales Return Service, Scrap Items and Rework

In this model, we establish an inventory model to determine the optimal inventory replenishment scheme for the economic production quantity (EPQ) model for imperfect, deteriorating items with sales return service under multiple production and rework setup. In one cycle, production process can produces the products in m production setups and reworks the defective items in one rework setup. The c...

Optimal lot size of EPQ model considering imperfect and defective products

The economic production quantity (EPQ) is a commonly used inventory model. An assumption in the EPQ model is that all units produced are perfect. Some researchers have studied the effects after relaxing this assumption on the inventory models. The objective of this paper is to determine the economic production quantity with reduced pricing, rework and reject situations in a single-stage system ...

An Algebraic Approach for Determining the Optimal Lot Size for Epq Model with Rework Process

This paper presents a simple algebraic approach for deriving the optimal lot size for economic production quantity (EPQ) model with rework process. Conventional methods for solving lot size problems are by using differential calculus on the long-run average production-inventory cost function with the need to prove optimality first. A few recent articles proposed the algebraic approach to the so...

Optimum production and inspection modeling with minimal repair and rework considerations

This paper extends an integrated model of economic production quantity (EPQ) and preventive maintenance (PM) to incorporate possibilities of minimal repair and rework. Our model determines simultaneously the optimal number of inspections, the inspection interval, the EPQ, and the PM level. Numerical examples of Weibull shock models are given to show that allowing minimal repair and rework will ...

Retracted: Using genetic algorithm approach to solve a multi-product EPQ model with defective items, rework, and constrained space

The Economic Production Quantity (EPQ) model is often used in the manufacturing sector to assist firms in determining the optimal production lot size that minimizes overall production-inventory costs. There are some assumptions in the EPQ model that restrict this model for real-world applications. Some of these assumptions are (1) infinite space of warehouse, (2) all of the pr...
